Topic:
- How can the ESCON2's configuration be saved in a file?
- Where is this file located?
Solution:
Select "Upload Parameters":
Once communication with the ESCON2 has been established, it appears as a branch of the "Drive System" in the "Logical" and "Physical" views of the "Workspace":
Select "Upload Parameters" in one of the views by right-clicking on the ESCON2 branch:
Caution:
Note the correct meaning and function of the terms "Upload Parameters" and "Download Parameters". Make sure you select the correct option. In your case, where the parameters are to be saved in a PC file, "Upload Parameters" must be selected!
- "Upload Parameters": ESCON2 -> PC
"Upload Parameters" means that the configuration of the ESCON2 is read (= uploaded) and written into a so-called *.dcf configuration file on the PC. "Upload Parameters" has to be used to save and document the configuration of an ESCON2 on a PC. maxon's support team will typically ask for such a configuration file if guidance is needed. - "Download Parameters": PC -> ESCON2
"Download Parameters" means that the content of a *.dcf configuration file (which had been saved in the past) is copied (= downloaded) into the ESCON2's memory, i.e. all configuration of the ESCON2 is overwritten by the file's content. "Download Parameters" can be used to copy a configuration previously saved as a file to one or more ESCON2 devices so that they are all configured the same way.
Define the file name and start the upload:
Enter the desired name for the parameter file. The extension .dcf is automatically added during upload and does not need to be entered. Click the "Upload" button to start reading and saving.
Wait until the "Upload" is finished and click the "Finish" button then:
Open the file location with "File Explorer":
The uploaded configuration file is added to "Parameter Sets" which are visible in the "Logic" view of the "Workspace". Right-click on the name of the parameter file and select "Open in File Explorer" to open the PC directory where the file is saved.
From this directory, you can copy the file if necessary or attach it to a support request:
Caution:
Do neither(!) move nor(!) delete the *.dcf file in this directory! Motion Studio will then no longer be able to find the file and display it as a “Parameter Set” in the workspace.
Add-on hints:
Configuring project's default path:
The default path for project directories and configuration files can be configured via Motion Studio's "Options / Application" menu item:
